Padres FanFest 2011 :)

Yesterday was FanFest, and it was so much fun!!!

It was the getting there though, that was not fun.

IMG_0079.JPGSomeone annoyingly decided to schedule the air show on Coronado on the same day as FanFest. My family and I decided to leave our house around 8 so that we would get downtown around 9. Around 8:40 a.m., we got stuck in the worst traffic that I’ve ever seen. At 10:40, we were finally able to break free and get to our exit. The most frustrating part about it was that we were probably 1 1/2-2 miles away from our exit when we got stuck. Uggghhh.

But, we did make it with plenty of time to see all the attractions at FanFest. I really enjoyed it, but I think next year the Padres need to bring in some more features.

I was shocked at how many people there were, especially since it seemed like the whole city was heading to Coronado (there were actually 70,000 people at the air show!!!!). But there were long lines at Petco for the Garage Sale and the clubhouse tour.

I’ve been to the Garage Sale three years now, and it’s so funny to see some of the same stuff coming out every year! A lot of the old commemorative baseballs have been trying to sell for years, but I doubt  that many people are very interested in those.

I didn’t find much, but I did get a “5” patch that potentially could have been on Kouz’s jersey had he stayed with the Padres. Sniff sniff. I also bought a Western Metal Theater shirt, mostly because it was only $3.

I got Clayton Richard and Mike Adams’ autographs, which was pretty cool.

IMG_0101.JPGI got to talk to Friarhood, RJ’s Fro, Jane Mitchell, and various other fans. And of course, my Padres buddy Hyun Young. We passed out some blog cards and cupcakes and cake pops that we made ourselves. Mine got really squished, but whatever. It’s the taste that counts.

I also sat in on the Leadership Forum, which featured Dick Enberg and Tom Garfinkel. It was really interesting hearing the questions from the fans and the thoughts of both of these guys. I am especially excited about a game this year where Trevor Hoffman is going to be honored. It’s going to be sweet!!

I was super happy to get out to Petco Park again. It had been way too long, and it was so much fun to see sooo many Padres fans out there. They ended up having over 21,000 people there!!!!!

I can’t wait for baseball season to start. I have a feeling that this Padres team is going to be AMAZING.

Shoutouts!!

Today is Hyun Young’s birthday!!!! Happy birthday Padres buddy!!!! You are amazing 🙂

And, big shoutout to my sports editor and fellow Padres fan, Matt, who I assist on Palomar College’s newspaper, The Telescope. If you have any complaints about this blog, send them to him. Just kidding 🙂 And if you love Palomar sports, the Watercooler, our sports blog, is the place to find all Comets sports coverage.

GO PADRES!!!

Almost Time For FanFest…

Only a few more hours until FanFest!!! I’m so excited 🙂

I just wanted to let you all know that you need to find Hyun Young and I tomorrow, because we have some very special treats for you. Yeah, I know, we’re great.

I’m going to be wearing my Adrian jersey, and I’ll have Adrian’s Red Sox mug shot taped to one sleeve, and a very cute picture of Kouz on the other. It’s going to be SWEET.

I really hope that I’ll get to meet a lot of you guys tomorrow. Don’t be shy!

See you all tomorrow!!

GO PADRES!!!!!

Only Two Days Till FanFest!!

I am soooo excited about FanFest!!! I can’t believe that it’s only two days away. I’m going to have so much fun, and I’m so happy that I get to go to Petco Park this weekend. Best place ever.

Even though it’s pretty much the same events as last year, I’m still super excited to get out there and recharge my fanhood. It’s been way too long since I’ve seen any baseball, and this is pretty much a celebration of our boys getting ready to get out there and win a title for us.

Hyun Young and I are really hoping to get Mat Latos’ autograph. Out of all the guys on our team, this is one of the most amazing rising stars, and I feel like his autograph is going to be worth a lot someday. I would say that he’s the next Jake Peavy but…look how he turned out.

I’m also excited to see the clubhouse again. I’ve taken the tour twice, but it still has the awe of the first time. Just thinking about the kind of legends that have stood in that clubhouse, like Trevor Hoffman and Kevin Kouzmanoff. Just to think that my baby spent a ton of time in that room…wow. It makes me want to scream or faint or something. That is a very special place.

I really hope that there’s a lot of good stuff at the garage sale, too. Last year I got a Kevin Kouzmanoff banner that had been hanging on one of the lampposts (until they traded him of course). It’s super cool, and I hope that I can find more Kouz stuff and anything else interesting.

And of course, the best part about FanFest is meeting up with other fans who are just as crazy about the Padres as I am! I hope to meet and re-meet a ton of people this year, including but not limited to Hyun Young, John, Gaslamp Ball people, RJ’s Fro people, Twitter people, and Friarhood people. Especially since Hyun Young and I have a very special plan.

I can’t wait. It’s going to be such a fun day!!

GO PADRES!!!!!

Almost There!!

springtraining.jpgWe are just over two weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting for Spring Training.

WE ARE JUST OVER TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORTING FOR SPRING TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sooooo excited. Every year I’m always so surprised at how fast the off-season goes by. At the very end of the season, it seems like Spring Training is so far away, but it always flies by so fast.

I’m also really excited about this team. It’s so different that it’s ever been. We’ve got a strange mix of new players, but I think it’s going to work out really well. We just signed Jorge Cantu, which is going to be great, plus we’ve got all these new guys like Aaron Harang, Brad Hawpe, Jason Bartlett, Chad Qualls, Orlando Hudson. I can’t wait to see how all those guys work together and become a team.

There’s been all sorts of interesting things going on around the organization. The Padres Awards dinner was this week, and of course, Adrian won MVP. No surprise there.

The Padres also announced two new jerseys, a gray road one and a new camo jersey. I really like the new camo.

FanFest is in two weeks!!! It’s going to be so great. I can’t wait to go back to Petco Park! I don’t even want to count how long it’s been since I’ve been there. Too long. Way too long.

Okay. I’m ready for Padres baseball now. Bring it on.

GO PADRES!!!

Can’t Wait for FanFest :D

I am getting so excited about baseball! Now that football is finally over, we can jump back into baseball. I’ve kept very busy this offseason, but I’m finally really missing baseball. Football’s great and everything, but baseball is the best.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited about the Padres FanFest this Saturday!! I wasn’t entirely sure I would be able to go until a couple days ago, and now that I know that I’m definitely going, I am just super super excited. I can’t wait to get out to Petco Park again to hang out with other Padres fans and get to interact with Padres players. I’m also really excited about being able to tour the clubhouse and run (or walk) the bases and shop at the Padres Garage Sale. I’ve been to the Fan Fest once and to the Fan Day last year, and both were amazing events.

I’ve been working on my amazing $10 jersey for the past few days. It was originally a Brian Giles jersey, but I’ve, uh, fixed it 🙂 Haha! It’s going to turn out so great. I will reveal it here on the blog next week after I wear it at the Fan Fest. It’s been a lot of fun to work on, and I can’t wait to wear it this Saturday!

Hyun Young’s list of stuff to do at the Fan Fest is amazing, and it’s almost exactly the same as my list would be, but I’m not going to steal her idea 🙂 As you know, it’s her birthday this Saturday, and I can’t wait to hang out with her!! We’re going to have soooo much fun!!

I haven’t been to Petco Park since late September! My goodness, that was a long time ago! You have no idea how excited I am to see Petco again. That’s my FAVORITE place to go and it’s been way too long since I’ve been there.

This is going to be such a great event. I can’t wait to spend a great day there and then come home and share stories and pictures with all you guys!!

And, pitchers and catchers report in nine days!! WOW!!! Hehehehehe I’m sooooooo excited!!!!

It’s going to be so great to have Padres baseball back. I miss it like crazy. Things are going to be different, that’s for sure, but I think it’s going to be a great season.

GO PADRES!!!

Padres vs. Rockies Today!

  • 4-3 Rangers

Yesterday we played the Rangers, and we lost. Cha Seung Baek allowed one run in two innings. He now has a 9.00 ERA in the spring so far. Lovely. Anyway, Justin Hampson then threw a scoreless inning. After him was Joe Thatcher. Yes, of course he allowed a run! I’m telling you, this guy can’t pitch! He could at the end of 2007, but he lost it. Next Oneli Perez and his 20.25 ERA pitched and allowed two runs. But the next four pitchers had scoreless innings. Our pitching has still be incredible, it’s usually just one or two guys that don’t really have it. Like Thatcher.

We had some problems on the offensive side. We had five total hits. Will Venable, Drew Macias, and Evereth Cabrera drove in runs for the Padres. We got one run in the sixth, one in the seventh, and one in the eighth. But we fell just one run short. Kouz had three at-bats. He didn’t get a hit, but he made two solid throws on the field. Luis Rodriguez stole second and third and scored when Venable drove him in. Or, at least that’s what the Padres website said. I have reason to believe that it was actually Everth Cabrera who stole both bases. Apparently Cabrera was pitch-running for Rodriguez. There was an interview on XX 1090 after the game where they mentioned Cabrera stealing two bases. Also, there is a comment on the news story on padres.com from a person who says that they were at the game and it was Cabrera. Hmmm… It wasn’t the best game, but the players are getting their work in, and that’s all that really matters.

I just listened to an interview on XX 1090 of Kevin Kouzmanoff. It was so funny! They barely talked about baseball and what’s going on in camp, and that’s what made it so funny! They talked about really random stuff. Kouz actually said that he didn’t want to talk about baseball, so Darren Smith kind of threw away the questions he had prepared and totally talked about random things. I love Kouz!! It was a very cool interview. I really enjoyed it.

Today we are playing the Rockies. We have a lot of history with the Rockies over the past few years (game 163, the 22-inning game). I think there’s a bit of a rivalry here. I have always hated playing the Rockies after game 163, but that is understandable considering my strong feelings during and after that game. But now the Rockies have lost their leader Matt Holliday (who has still not touched the plate), and though they still have a lot of good players, they have not been doing that great this spring so far. I’m sure they will get their wins in, but so far they have lost eight games and that’s it. Yesterday they lost to Mexico 7-3. I think I just have a lot of bad memories of Rockie players… Here’s the lineup:

  • RF Drew Macias (well that’s interesting)
  • 2B Chris Burke (ahh yes the guy who plays like five positions!)
  • CF Jody Gerut (has he ever batted third before with the Padres?)
  • LF Chase Headley (go Chase!)
  • 1B Kyle Blanks (the big guy!)
  • C Nick Hundley (I love you Nick!)
  • 3B Travis Denker (no Kouz today)
  • SS Everth Cabrera (ah our base-stealer who didn’t get the credit)
  • SP Kevin Corriea (wow this is weird! I think this is the Padres’ first game that’s all National League!)

Kevin Corriea, who has been doing pretty well, is going to go for three innings today. He will be followed by Wade LeBlanc for two innings. Then Chad Reineke, Ivan Nova, Jae Kuk Ryu, and Cesar Carrillo. It will be an interesting game…

Hyun Young is going to the fanfest on April 5, so I think I need to go now too. My parents haven’t given me a “yes” or a “no” yet, but I think we should decide soon as it’s only like four weeks away! It would be so much fun to be able to get out there! I really hope I can make it!

I am so glad the weekend is almost here. It’s been a long week…

GO PADRES!!!
