Pounded by the Sox
- 15-4 White Sox
Oh boy. What a nasty game! Our pitching did terrible, and I hate it when our pitching does terrible. Without good pitching, we can’t win. It’s a simple as that. And so, because we had bad pitching today, we did not win.
Chris Young started and threw three innings. He only gave up two runs, but his stuff was not the best. Mike Ekstrom gave up six runs. Mark Worrell gave up his first two runs of the spring. Greg Burke gave up four runs. And Joe Thatcher, the pitcher who canot pitch, gave up another run. Tsk tsk. He really shouldn’t get a spot in the bullpen. Scott Patterson had the only scoreless inning of all the pitchers.
Our hitters didn’t do the best. Cliff Floyd hit a solo bomb. Nick Hundley and Luis Rodriguez each drove in a run. Cedric Hunter has two hits and drove in a run.
It was very cool to listen to the game and hear about all these White Sox players that I’ve been reading about for so long on Jen’s blog. It was like, an amazing moment when I heard AJ Pierzynski’s first at-bat. I have heard SO much about him, and then suddenly he was there, on the same field as my Padres. It was pretty incredible. I predicted that he was going to kill us, and though he didn’t hit a bomb, he had two hits and drove in a run. Jen’s other favorite, Josh Fields, had three hits in three at-bats and drove in a run.
Tomorrow is a split-squad thingy. I’m guessing that all our “regulars” will stay in Peoria and play the Indians. Cha Seung Baek is starting that one. The other game will be against the Giants in Scottsdale. Cesar Ramos will start that one. It will be very interesting…wouldn’t it be cool if we won both games? π
I watched the last half hour or so of Star Wars Episode II last night. You know, those movies are incredible! The first three are not the best, but they are still amazing. I absolutely love the Attack of the Clones, mostly because of the love story part of it, but it’s so cheesy! (“I’ve been dying a little bit every day since you cam back into my life.” “I thought we decided not to fall in love. That it would destroy us.” “It looks like we’re about to be destroyed anyway.”) I really noticed that last night. But I love it! The third one was really good, I loved it, but it was so sad. Yeah, I’m feeling kind of random tonight π
As I’ve mentioned, some friends of mine got to go to the Spring Training game last week. I would like to share a few of the pictures they took. A lot of them are really excellent. They had great seats, so these are nice and close. Enjoy!
Cliff Floyd getting hit-by-pitch. You can see the ball above the umpire’s head.

I love that I’m associated with AJ Pierzynski on MLBlogs. It’s a wonderful feeling! There’s a bright side for the Padres in this game: by us beating you this badly in spring training, you know who needs work and who should stay far, far away from the 25-man roster! Good luck with your split squad today!

Haha, that’s right Jen! Now we can get rid of all these guys who are making us lose! But I’m still deciding on whether it was our pitching or your hitting. I think it was our pitching.
Even though we lost, I’m ok with that. But our pitching was SO bad! I’m concered about Joe Thatcher as well. Those are some nice pictures! I’m looking forward to today’s game games. I would be awesome if we win both games π As always, GO PADRES!

Great pix your friend took. I’m sure you wish you’d been there, but these are the next best thing, right?

Unlucky that the Padres lost.
I do like the pics though, especially the Cliff Floyd one. The ball almost hit the ump.

HYUN YOUNG, yeah, our pitching is really suffering. I hope it goes better soon! And yes, I really hope we win both!
JANE, yeah it was really cool to “experience” the game through their pictures!
DARION, yeah, isn’t that one cool? My friends did a great job!
OH MY GOD I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE STAR WARS PREQUELS!!!!
The summer before I was in 7th grade, my friend and I started calling our other friend “Anakin” and singing the Darth Vader song whenever he walked into a room. I had a star wars watch. And I would imitate some character or another all the time…I wore my hair like Princess Leia. That was fun…
My favorite scene in Attack of the Clones is the one where they roll around in the meadow…everyone else I know hated that movie, but I love it…the third one was my favorite, I’ve seen it 13 times…I’m such a geek sometimes.
Nice pics! It would be cool if you guys won both split-squad games. It sucks that you guys lost yesterday…
You have a good weekend, too!

Umm..Kaybee – You’re too young to understand how amazing the “first three” Star Wars movies were. New technology was invented for those movies. I think they story lines and characters were better then also. BUT I have been a sci-fi geek for more years then I care to count!

XCICIX, I know what you mean. I wasn’t as obsessed as you guys were, but I used to be a really big Star Wars freak. I knew so much about it!!
JULIA, yeah, I know π But they are pretty amazing, and I really love them!
Pitching. pitching, pitching…I feel your pain…Star Wars changed the way people saw Science Fiction back in the day. It bridged a gap…Keep up the great work π
Almost forgot……I loved the pictures π
Kaybee,
I didn’t know Cliff Floyd signed with the Padres. Was it a minor league deal? I LOVE star wars too, I am SUCH a sci-fi nerd it’s not even funny. Great pictures!

SO I’m getting caught up on baseball and oh what do I see but none other than Mr. Padre getting shilacked and the US losing on the mercy rule! If he pitches like that during the season the Padres could have a very long season.

Nice pics…the one with the guy getting hit is very cool…not that getting hit is good, but the photo is fun! Sometimes when I get shots like that, I look at the camera and cheer out loud…people around me are like, is she cheering cuz he got whacked? Hee!

DODGER 4 LIFE, thanks!
ELIZABETH, I think we signed Floyd as a free agent. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a minor league deal, cause we really need him off the bench. But it was probably a deal under $1 million or so.
TOM, I am really worried about him. More on that in my next entry…but yeah. We really need him!!
JENN, haha, that’s great! I know what you mean though. I love taking pictures at the ballpark!!
